Join us for the LLG Commercial Conference 2026, taking place online on 9th October 2026.
This year’s conference brings together local government lawyers and professionals working across commercial law and related areas, with a programme focused on some of the practical issues.
Across the day, our sessions will cover subsidy control, regeneration projects, public sector technology contracts and property-related disputes, with a particular focus on the practical challenges that lawyers face when dealing with these areas.
We’ll start the day by looking at Subsidy Control in Regeneration Projects, exploring where subsidies can arise, how to identify them and the options available to local authorities for dealing with them. We’ll then look at Procuring Public Sector Technology Contracts, covering the procurement lifecycle for software contracts, including planning and scoping projects, dealing with suppliers’ standard terms and conditions and making sure contracts are future-proofed.
After the morning break, Katherine Holland KC from Landmark Chambers will look at Urgent Situations in Property-Related Disputes, focusing on what happens when a property dispute requires action quickly and the legal remedies available when there isn’t time to follow the usual timetable.
In the afternoon, we’ll return to subsidy control with a practical session looking at Subsidy Control in Practice – What Do You Need to Be Aware Of? This will cover lessons learned from the SAU and CAT, when additional resources or specialist input may be needed and how organisations can make assessing subsidies easier as part of their day-to-day processes.
The programme will also include sessions from our LLG Corporate Partners, Freeths and Anthony Collins, with further details and speakers to be confirmed.
Throughout the day, speakers will share practical advice, examples and lessons learned, with a focus on the issues you are likely to encounter in your own work rather than simply looking at the theory.
The conference is suitable for LLG Membership Plus members, as well as our wider LLG membership and non-members. The conference is free of charge for Membership Plus members, while our standard member and non-member fees apply to other attendees.
The conference will run from 9.25am to 4.00pm, with regular breaks and a lunch break included in the programme.

Ruth Yates is a Partner in the Corporate Commercial Team at Capsticks. Ruth specialises in public sector procurement, subsidy control and grant funding. She advises local authorities and other public bodies on public sector projects and contracts.
Katharine Holland KC is described in Chambers & Partners as having a “brilliant legal mind”, a “greatly effective advocacy style”, a “strong track record of acting in high-profile cases” and was recently shortlisted for Real Estate Silk of the Year 2026. She has long experience in relation to injunctions against ‘persons unknown’, having obtained the first trespass injunction of this type in Hampshire Waste v Persons Unknown in 2003.
