Children Services and Education

Welcome to the National Children's Services and Education Group of LLG

This is a national group made up of local authority child care practitioners from all over England and Wales.

We want to be a voice for local authority child care lawyers. We seek to link up with all our regional SAA's / SIG's in order to share good practice, contribute to government and judicial consultations and generally act as a source of advice and support. We also want to promote the establishment of regional SAA's / SIG's where none exist at present.

To join any of the national groups go to "My LLG" hub and "My national interest groups" tab where you can also see the groups that you are a member of.

Family Rights Group has recently finalised a legal briefing note regarding legal aid provision in situations where a child is, or may be, deprived of their liberty by the Family Court. The note sets out details of legal aid provision including where:-

  • A secure accommodation order is sought
  • An order under the High Court’s inherent jurisdiction is sought
  • Orders are contemplated but have not yet been applied for – i.e. legal aid provision for early-stage advice.

The note is available on Family Rights Group’s website on this page, and sits within the ‘Legal reform for deprivation of liberty’ dropdown.

The briefing aims to provide a clear, accessible account of the relevant legal aid framework and be useful for legal and social work practitioners, the judiciary and families to refer to. The note further highlights a number of anomalies in current legal aid provision and sets out proposals for reform.
