Applications Invited for an Interim Northern Regional Director.

LLG are seeking a new Interim Northern Regional Director to replace the outgoing Director.

 

If you have the strategic vision to lead the company at pace whilst applying creative vision to the provision of membership services; this role will provide a stimulating, rewarding and career enhancing opportunity placing you in direct contact with key stakeholders and corporate partners.

 

You must live or work within the Northern Region to be eligible to apply for this position. Please check LLG | Northern for applicable geographical areas.

 

Role of Regional Director: -

 

The Role of the Regional Director will be: -

·        To be the face and ambassador of LLG for the North

·        To set a strategy to grow and enable the LLG Northern members and liaise effectively with the current Northern groups.

·        To liaise with Corporate Partners and Stakeholders where necessary

·        To attend meetings and events (supported by the centre on delivery).

·        To update the Board on regional activity, issues, and themes

·        To take on director responsibilities and feed into National Strategy.

·        To ensure that the Northern perspective is embedded into LLG Work Streams.

 

The Interim Regional Director position will commence from the effective date of appointment following Board determination in September until the AGM in April 2027.  

 

The role is not remunerated, but expenses will be paid in line with the company’s expense policy for directors. Paid for attendance at the LLG Governance Conference is provided for this position (including reasonable travel and accommodation).


With these factors in mind, should you wish to be considered for the position of Interim Regional Director, please set out in no more than two sides of A4 along with a CV a written application demonstrating, with examples where possible, the following:

  • Eligibility (see criteria)
  • Ability to take an interest in and represent LLG members at all levels.
  • Commitment to LLG.
  • Capacity to represent LLG effectively and with impact at all levels (Stakeholders include LGA, LGSCO, CIPFA, SOLACE, ADSO, AEA, RTIP, SRA, The Law Society and Central Government Departments);
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Regional Knowledge (relevant to the sector).

 

Appointment

Appointment is by way of determination by the Board on an interim basis prior to formal elections prior to the AGM which the successful candidate will be encouraged to stand for.  

 

Criteria

1.Must be a full member of Lawyers in Local Government

2.Must be currently actively working within Local Government

3.Must be capable of holding a director position in England and Wales under company law

4.Must have some understanding of the work of LLG and its aims and objectives

5.Should have some understanding of the current challenges facing local government lawyers

6.Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities

7. Must live or work in the North with knowledge of local authority law.

Board meetings are held bi-monthly and are provided on a hybrid basis with some fully remote. These normally take place on a Friday.

There are two hybrid conferences per year (Spring and Governance Conference). You should be willing to communicate by email or teams/zoom occasionally in between meetings. LLG recommends you discuss this position with your line manager due to the need to attend meetings on occasion during office hours.

  • Play a full and active role in LLG, taking part in discussions and encouraging debate
  • Prepare well for meetings, reading papers and thinking through issues
  • Contribute in a considered and constructive way
  • Complete any action points as agreed and to timetable
  • Make decisions in the best interests of LLG for the good of the wider membership, not just your own authority
  • Ensure LLG is well run through appropriate challenge
  • Raise issues and questions in a sensitive way
  • Keep up to date with the workings of LLG and the local government sector
  • Act in good faith and be accountable for your actions
  • Respect majority decisions even when you are in the minority
  • Have a working knowledge of the articles
  • Actively contribute to improving the governance of the board
  • Work to identify and encourage candidates to ensure succession to the board
