Ruth Atkinson Wilks, Senior Associate

Ruth Atkinson Wilks specialises in medical law, working with a range of clients within the health, social care and housing sectors.

Ruth provides clients with advice on issues concerning mental capacity, best interests, deprivation of liberty and serious medical treatment cases. She frequently represent healthcare commissioners and healthcare providers in proceedings before the Court of Protection and also has experience of making applications to the High Court under the Inherent Jurisdiction. She also assist where there are challenges to the provision of care by way of judicial review.

Ruth has regularly advised healthcare providers on health and safety matters and has been instructed to represent providers in HSE and CQC investigations and prosecutions.

Ruth has an interest in mental health law and, in particular, issues surrounding Section 117 aftercare. She is often asked to advise in commissioning disputes regarding Section 117 aftercare.
