One of the drivers behind the Procurement Bill is increased transparency. However, how does this fit with data protection and freedom of information legislation? In our next LLG procurement lawyers’ meeting, we will be looking at:
The session will be hosted by our national lead team, Kieran McGaughey and Alice Rowland, with guest speakers from VWV law firm, Stephanie Rickard and Vicki Bowles. Please see speaker profiles for further details. In the second half of the session, there’ll be a chance to ask questions and discuss this topic with other LLG members.
This event is open to all LLG members for free. See you there!
Stephanie heads up VWV's specialist Procurement and Subsidy Control team.
Stephanie is a very experienced and knowledgeable procurement and subsidy control lawyer with a track record of advising on and managing complex and high value procurements and projects. She is recognised as a top ranked adviser in public procurement in Chambers and Partners legal directory.
Stephanie advises public sector clients on planning and preparing their procurement strategy, drafting tender documents, assisting with evaluation methodology and process, managing procurement challenges and advising on structuring transactions to comply with subsidy control law.
She is a member of the Procurement Lawyers Association and a contributor to their various working groups.
Vicki is a barrister and Partner in the Commercial team at VWV, specialising in all aspects of information law and data privacy.
Vicki began her career at HMRC, before moving to the Charity Commission's compliance legal team. Vicki dealt with information requests as part of her work at the Commission, and upon moving to private practice, gained an LLM in information law and began advising organisations and businesses on information law issues.
Vicki has since built up experience of advising a wide range of clients on their information law obligations, including UK GDPR, FOIA, EIRs, PECR, and confidentiality. This includes practical advice on how to be compliant, as well as advice and assistance on requests from individuals, contractual terms and international transfers.
Vicki's recent experience includes advising public authorities on withholding commercially sensitive information in relation to developments that were opposed locally, where FOI and the EIRs were used in an attempt to frustrate the process. This involved balancing the need to be transparent, against protecting the commercial interests of third parties.
