We are pleased to be offering this insightful webinar regarding the Armed Forces Act.
We have Linda Jones - Chief Legal and Monitoring Officer at Westmorland and Furness Council and Lead Officer for the Armed Forces leading this webinar.
This session will explain the Armed Forces Covenant and the Covenant Duty, together with an overview of the latest proposals to expand the duty across more Council services.
The Session will be a refresher training session, with a focus on health, housing and education, which reflects the Armed Forces Act 2021. This Act places a legal obligation on public bodies to pay ‘due regard to the principles of the Covenant’ and requires decisions about the development and delivery of certain services to be made with conscious consideration of the needs of the Armed Forces Community.
The aim of the session will be to help you understand and apply the principles of the Covenant with confidence. It will equip you to ask questions within your Council to ask what are you currently doing to meet the existing duties and to be ready for the new duties.
The session will also cover what your Council can do to support defence under the Defence Employment Recognition Scheme.
This webinar is free for members and will take place on Zoom. Please sign up by clicking the book button. The link to the Zoom meeting will be sent the day before the webinar, so please keep an eye on your inbox.
