He represents both local authorities (acting for returning officers) and against the Electoral Commission. Over the past quarter of a century he has appeared in many of the leading cases in this field, some of which have established legal principles such as the extent of the duty the returning officer owes to a candidate
Vivienne Sedgley is “a remarkable junior whose star is in the ascendant” (Chambers and Partners) and "an expert in the field of election law" (Legal 500 2024). She edits one of the leading election law commentaries: Parker’s Law and Conduct of Elections and has acted and advised in a variety of urgent, sensitive and high-profile matters, including emergency ‘on call’ advice on local and general election days. She previously worked for the Office of Speaker's Counsel at the House of Commons.
