After 6 months, my time at LLG has come to an end. Although my time here has been short, I leave with transferable skills and a depth of knowledge that can only be learnt in an environment like this one. Working with the team and membership has been both challenging and rewarding, and it is role that will inform the rest of my career.
First and foremost, my role was to support LLG members in their queries, distribute the weekly newsletter and promote LLG communications through social media. I came to learn the value of working directly with members as their views enabled me to inform discussions on how we can improve our delivery for them.
Away from my day to day, I was lucky enough to be involved in some of the company’s key delivery targets. Within my first 2 weeks, I was in Cambridge at the Annual Governance Conference 2021. Some of you may remember me walking around asking for photos for our social media updates or hurrying you into the room as the next session was about to begin. I reflect on that day as an opportunity to see the company in its best form, delivering valuable learning resources alongside the chance to interact with members from different backgrounds.
This collaborative environment was highlighted further when I was tasked with monitoring the behind-the-scenes running of the ADSO Awards 2021. Even though I was working, I was able to learn about the roles that ADSO support and how LLG works with them on wider issues like remote meeting provision. Although I was not part of the team that developed that petition, I was proud to be involved in the promotion of the campaign.
Aside from working with members, I helped with the website transition and development. Behind the scenes, hours of work were put in to produce a website with improved functionality, that will best serve our members. I am proud of my contribution to this delivery and look forward to seeing what the new website brings.
I will look back on my time at LLG with extreme gratitude for all the opportunities given to me. LLG is a true collaborative environment, with members interests at the heart of everything we do. I can only thank the team for welcoming me with open arms and giving me the best chance to learn and develop both personally and professionally. LLG opened my eyes to the benefits of working within local government and ultimately that is where I will take the next step in my career.
