This past year, I have been undertaking my Placement Year at LLG but my time here will soon be coming to an end. Working with the LLG team, its members and Corporate Partners has been an incredibly rewarding experience, although challenging at times, and I am grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey.
I was fortunate enough to secure a role which allows me to work across the entire organisation from distributing the membership newsletter and dealing with member queries to assisting with the marketing and delivery of training courses and conferences. I also monitor all of the company inboxes as well as keep the website content up to date.
Looking back at some of my highlights over the year, the Governance Conference, Spring Conference and LLG Awards as well as Work Experience Week are all up there since working on these projects merged my passion for both the law and event planning. They also forced me out of my comfort zone and provided me the chance to network with private and public sector lawyers, so it has truly been the best of both worlds.
Not only have I had the opportunity to network but also, assist on policy work such as creating summaries on the law for government consultations and working on LLG’s Articles of Association. This has no doubt provided me with invaluable transferrable skills I will take with me and continue to build on throughout my studies and in my future legal career.
Coming into this role, I was excited to learn about the world of local government legal work since it is not promoted to students as a mainstream route into law so, this has been such an eye-opening experience for me. LLG has truly broadened my horizons and I cannot thank the team enough for welcoming me with open arms and presenting me with countless opportunities to learn and grow both personally and professionally.
I will be keeping my options open about where I continue my legal career but I do love the community feel of working in local government so I will definitely be seeking out opportunities to work in the public sector at some point in the future.
For now, I will continue to make the most of my last month at LLG before returning to university to complete my studies. I have no doubt LLG will continue to grow and come up with new and exciting ways to support their members, who’s best interests are at the heart of everything they do.
