Hello Everyone

Welcome to my December blog.

The highlight of the last month was definitely the LLG Governance Conference.  Thanks so much to everyone who attended.  Everyone I spoke to agreed that it was a brilliant day, with people commenting that it was a shame they couldn’t attend all the sessions.  Well done to our small (but mighty) #teamLLG.  Conferences always bring it home to me how small the LLG team is and also how much those amazing people manage to achieve for our members.  The whole team are needed to make things run smoothly.

For me the best part of the conference was the launch of the Association of Monitoring Officers, which well and truly launched that day.  You’ll have seen the announcement that Helen Bradley will be chairing the AMO Committee as national lead MO and that Rachel McKoy has been appointed as the Director to support the Committee.  Membership is free until April and is open to any MO, Deputy MO and to anyone who has completed the LLG Inspire programme.  Rachel is busy now operationalising the committee’s ideas and launching the MO support line.

There’s been a warm and generous response from members wanting to get involved in AMO which is fantastic.  It shows how much AMO is wanted and needed by MOs.  I’m really passionate about this  - it’s been a lot of work to get AMO this far and I’m so pleased by the positive way AMO has been received.

For me the two most important things are the organised peer support and the production of peer reviewed guidance.  Both those things can stand behind our members and support them in difficult situations.  I’m sure you’ll have your own ideas too.  It’s going to take a little while to work out how best to harness this offers of support.   AMO needs to provide things which aren’t currently available and which benefit the whole profession and the cause of good governance.   I am sure we could design a flag for good governance, what do you think?

All that remains is to wish you and all LLG Members a brilliant break and, if you’ll be celebrating, have a great time!

Thanks for reading.

Paul
