All good things come to an end. This is my final blog as LLG president and today marks my final board meeting as a director of LLG ☹. It’s been a blast – in a local governmenty kind of way– but it’s also been rather busy and standing down will free up more time to deal with the swirling vortex of work that the balkanisation reorganisation of Essex is becoming.
It’s been an absolute honour to be involved in the work of LLG.
I hope I have managed to achieve something as LLG president, even if it’s only to persuade more people to stand for elections to LLG – it was great to see four people standing for Deputy Vice President this year. For the next two years LLG will be ‘Bradley Manor’ as Helen Bradley and then Anita Bradley are my two successors. I wish them both well, I’m sure they will be brilliant presidents. The creation of AMO has been the biggest thing to happen this year and I will continue to play my part in helping to shape it in becoming the professional body for monitoring officers. There have been lots of smaller things too.
I am sure LLG and its small – but mighty – team will continue to thrive, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped me over the last year – from #teamLLG, to Helen Bradley and to #teamEssex: Joanna Boaler, Katie Bray and Paula Clowes. Thank you so much for all you have done.
I’d also like to encourage people to get involved in the work of LLG - there’s more we could do if more people were involved.
Lastly, in Aberdeen in March I found what I think is the perfect retirement place for monitoring officers. It’s a real sign but I got AI to make it look cleaner because road signs in Aberdeen turn out not to be much cleaner than they are in Essex. If you’re wondering why I didn’t clean it in a public spirited way, it was freezing that day. Anyway, I have put my name down already.
That’s all forever - unless I am unexpectedly brought out of retirement for a future blog. I don’t expect that to happen – but you never know.
Paul
