Mark’s Tribute: -

As you will know Suki Binjal died very suddenly on 4th October a few days after her 60th birthday.

In her life Suki achieved so much; qualifying as a solicitor, becoming Head of Legal Services, being a Director of Law and Governance, being elected to represent the profession on the Council of the Law Society, serving as President of Lawyers in Local Government, and advising the Secretary of State as a Best Value Inspector.

Suki was never afraid to take on the biggest and toughest assignments - serving as City Solicitor in Birmingham, leading the renewal of Northumberland and recently as part of the Team sent by Government to Tower Hamlets. For her, there was no such thing as a glass ceiling.

Suki always wanted to nurture young aspiring lawyers to achieve their best, to imagine the unimaginable, and believe in themselves. To honour her contribution to local government, and in collaboration with her husband, Paul, family, and colleagues at LLG, we would like to establish a fund to produce an annual award/prize to be presented at an LLG Event - such as the Annual Awards Dinner. The bursary` would be awarded to a young lawyer who needs a little help to overcome social barriers to their progression.

To start with we are looking for a modest amount of £5000 to get the fund established, and LLG have kindly offered to help with the administration. For those looking to mark their respect for Suki and support all that she stood for, here's a way to help continue the change she led in life.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, the funds will be held in a joint account whilst a specific trust or charity is identified to hold the monies in the long term.

Thanks again,

Mark, Paul, and LLG!
