LLG’s Commercial Law Conference 2025 offers a full day of expert led training focused on the newest developments in commercial law, tailored explicitly to local government lawyers. Delivered by practitioners in the field, the conference provides invaluable insights and practical guidance to help attendees navigate key legal and regulatory challenges in the commercial and procurement landscape.
This year’s agenda will include a session on Contract Management under the Procurement Act 2023 in light of the evolving and changing local government landscape, delivered by Peter Ware from Browne Jacobson. Attendees will also hear from Mary Mundy and Catherine Mulroney of Capsticks on the Optima v DWP judgment and its practical implications for procurement documents and processes. Stephanie Rickard and Racheal Crean from VWV will lead a session on taking advantage of Direct Award options under the Provider Selection Regime. In addition, Sophie Mcfie-Hyland and Gayle Monk from Anthony Collins will present on sustainable and socially responsible procurement.
Peter, heads up the Government and Infrastructure team and he is the deputy head of the government sector at Browne Jacobson. Peter's team of lawyers advise on all aspects of commercial activity for the public sector and those companies and third sector bodies that work with the public sector. In particular Peter specialises in complex procurement, shared services, outsourcing and public sector joint ventures.
Prior to joining Browne Jacobson, he worked as special projects adviser for Nottinghamshire County Council. His work there included working on the Nottingham Tram project and in particular the withdrawal by the County Council from its joint promotion of the programme, which had been place for over 25 years. Peter has extensive knowledge of local authority law and he also has a diploma in local government law and practice.
Since his time with Browne Jacobson Peter's practice has spread to working more regularly with central government departments and arm's length bodies. Peter has completed a number of significant national projects in the last few years.
Peter is also finance and membership secretary for the Procurement Lawyers Association, a member of the editorial board for procurement online at CIPFA, a member of the editorial board for Local Government at Lexis Nexis and he is a regular public speaker at national and international events.
With over 20 years' experience advising on and managing complex and high value procurements and projects, Stephanie leads VWV's specialist Procurement and Subsidy Control team.
Stephanie acts for local authorities and wider public sector organisations as well as healthcare professionals and other bidders.
She advises on all aspects of the procurement process as well as advising on bringing and defending procurement challenges.
Stephanie is ranked as a leading individual in the Chambers and Partners UK-wide Procurement category.
Rachel is a Partner in VWV's London based Commercial Litigation team and leads the Healthcare Litigation team. She is ranked in Chambers and Partners for Contentious Healthcare.
Rachel has experience of acting for both commissioners and bidders in procurement challenges.
She regularly provides advice and training on the Provider Selection Regime.
Mary Mundy is an experienced commercial lawyer with a particular focus on public procurement. She has extensive experience advising clients in a range of sectors including health, central government, local government, housing and utilities.
