Many frontline and operational staff unfortunately become involved in the deaths of service users and residents and are then asked by a Coroner to give evidence at the Inquest. This can often be a daunting experience. During this practical and collaborative session, we will take you through the Inquest process and introduce you to ideas and tips as to how you can prepare for an Inquest and support your witnesses to give the best evidence. Key topics will include:
A summary of the relevant law and guidance
How to prepare for a Pre-Inquest Review Hearing
What does a good witness statement look like?
How to prepare for the Inquest itself
The course will be delivered by Naomi McMaster, Partner and Head of Health and Justice at Capsticks. Naomi has over 16 years’ experience of representing public authorities, police forces, private custodial service operators, private probation service providers, healthcare providers and care homes on inquests and related civil claims, public inquiries, and judicial reviews.
This course will be of interest to members of the core legal team in local authorities, and anyone dealing with the day-to-day elements of the inquest process, for example disclosure, dealing with witnesses and witness evidence.
