This course is available to trainee solicitors, paralegals, solicitor apprentices and junior lawyers who are LLG members and up to 5 years' PQE at a reduced rate of £75 + VAT. All junior lawyers are entitled to free membership of LLG. Please email bookings@llg.org.uk

This course will provide delegates with a solid introduction to the complex area of freedom of information law. The course will include an explanation of the key principles of FOI including timescales and costs; an exploration of the exemptions including an examination of vexatious requests; and the interaction between FOI and other legislation. The course will be useful for those who are new to dealing with freedom of information and information management, as well as those who have some limited experience or are in need of a refresher.

  • Background and History

  • Timescales

  • Cost Limits

  • Publication Schemes

  • Absolute and Qualified Exemptions

  • The Public Interest Test

  • Vexatious Requests

  • Internal Reviews and Complaints

  • FOI & Other Legislation including Environmental Information Regulations, DPA & GDPR, Local Government Transparency Code and Local Government Act 1972

Andy Henderson

Andy has responsibility for Data Protection, Freedom of Information, The Environmental Information Regulations, the Local Government Transparency Code and Records Management. 

 

Andy’s career has included positions in higher education, the civil service and local government, with the provision of training to colleagues, schools, community organisations and service users playing a prominent role in his work. 

 

Andy holds the BCS Practitioner Certificates in both Data Protection and Freedom of Information/Environmental Information Regulations, as well as the Preparing To Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) educational qualification.
