Job Description:

We wish to recruit an additional highly motivated lawyer to share our social care caseload.

As a Unitary Authority we provide all council services to residents, businesses and visitors.

It’s an action-packed time for the Council as not only are we overseeing the delivery of significant infrastructure projects, with upgrades and improvements across the city, we are also working with Health colleagues to deliver the Health and Care Act 2022.

We offer a broad range of interesting work so you will be at the forefront of the big changes on the horizon – from devolution and the levelling up agenda to supporting newly recruited directors in reshaping social care within the City and the implementation of Integrated Care Systems.

You will excel in our team if you are a highly motivated and enthusiastic team player, committed to public law, who is keen to provide a high quality service and has a desire to help shape the City of York.

You will form strong relationships with social care colleagues, working together to make a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable people in York as well as developing and supporting other lawyers within the team.

A strong knowledge is required of Court of Protection/deprivation of liberty/Mental Capacity Act 2005 but also local authority duties under the Care Act 2014 and Mental Health Act 1983, including ordinary residence procedures and funding responsibilities.

If you are a solicitor, barrister or CILEX with significant social care experience we would be delighted to hear from you.

This post is deemed as politically restricted. As designated politically restricted officers, employees will not be allowed to undertake certain activities. Please refer to the guidance attached for further information.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
