The role: 37 hours per week, permanent, hybrid working with expectation for minimum of 3 days based in the offices at County Hall, Cross Street, Beverley HU17 9BA
As Assistant Chief Executive for Legal, Governance and Democratic Services – and the Council’s Statutory Monitoring Officer – you will lead a modern, effective and resilient Legal and Democratic Services function at the heart of East Riding of Yorkshire Council. As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will provide authoritative oversight of legal services, governance, democratic services, constitutional matters, elections, assurance, information governance and organisational integrity. Your leadership will ensure the Council fulfils its statutory duties, upholds the highest standards of probity, and operates with transparency, accountability and professionalism.
Working at both a corporate and directorate level, you will help to shape the Council’s operating model, contribute to organisation‑wide transformation, and support strategic programmes aligned to the Council’s ambitions. You will provide visible, values‑led leadership across Legal and Democratic Services, inspiring high performance, championing innovation and digital modernisation, and building a culture grounded in integrity, professionalism and continuous improvement.

Candidate Requirements
This opportunity is ideal for candidates who are qualified as a solicitor, holding a current practising certificate with significant post qualification experience, with:
