Job Description:

Mansfield District Council is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lawyer to join our professional and friendly legal team as Legal Services Manager. This role also includes Deputy Monitoring Officer responsibilities.

Our legal team is highly regarded throughout the authority as professional and reliable, delivering an excellent legal service with every member of the team having a positive “can-do” attitude and adopting a problem-solving approach to any challenge presented to them. Mansfield District Council is an ambitious authority and the work undertaken by the legal team is varied, interesting and extremely rewarding.

Strong and effective communication skills are key for this role as the successful candidate would be expected to lead the team and share knowledge and best practices regularly. We are a true team, with the collective goal of providing an exemplary legal service to Mansfield District Council. Everyone is encouraged to share creative and innovative ideas to improve our team and the delivery of our legal service.

We are seeking to recruit a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive to manage our Legal Services team and act as Deputy Monitoring Officer. We would expect the successful candidate to add value to the provision of legal services to the Council and work closely with officers across the Council in delivering an ambitious and challenging corporate programme, including some significant regeneration projects.

The successful candidate must have the ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and be able to manage conflicting priorities within a diverse and demanding workload. We are seeking a leader that will guide the Legal Services team with a strong approach to performance management.

Whilst local government experience is not essential as we recognise the value of different practice backgrounds and welcome the insight and breadth of knowledge that this brings, management experience and the ability to provide strategic legal advice and support within a complex and changing organisation is vital.

Mansfield District Council operates a hybrid-working model according to business need and all variations of flexible working are open for discussion. We offer an excellent range of employee benefits, including up to 37 days annual leave (after 5 years’ local government service) and a very attractive employer pension contribution. For more information or to discuss the opportunity available, please contact Sara Pregon on 01623 463426 or spregon@mansfield.gov.uk

If you would like to apply please send your CV and supporting statement setting out how you meet the essential criteria of the role to recruitment@mansfield.gov.uk
