Do you want to improve your work-life balance and develop your career? We are supportive of flexible working arrangements where possible and encourage you to discuss this with us during the selection process.

We are based in the beautiful Brocks Hill country park in Oadby and this part of Leicestershire is a great place to live, work and visit. Our council is a great organisation to work for, we offer a competitive salary and fantastic benefits including ample holiday, flexi-time and the generous local government pension scheme. Agile working allows employees to work flexibly to balance their home and work needs. You can find more information about our benefits here https://www.oadby-wigston.gov.uk/pages/employee_benefits.

We are looking for two talented and enthusiastic individuals to join us within our in-house Legal Services team.

As part of the Law & Democracy team, we are responsible for providing comprehensive legal support across all the council’s activities and functions, ensuring statutory compliance and effective governance. The team also manages the council’s democratic processes, including committee administration and councillor support, together with delivering transparent and efficient elections.

Our two part-time solicitors will jointly provide expert in-house legal services (both contentious and non-contentious) across a broad spectrum of matters, including contracts, conveyancing, prosecutions, and litigation. They will enjoy working primarily in a generalist role, embracing a variety of tasks, while contributing expertise in any specific, transferable areas of law and practice relevant to local government.

If you have strong legal acumen, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, client-focused services in a politically dynamic and engaging environment, we would love to hear from you. You can find out more by viewing the job description and person specification.

At Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, we are proud of our diversity and recognise the value this brings. We are fair and inclusive and welcome applications from people with different backgrounds.
