Contract: Permanent – Full Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Peterborough City Council’s Unitary Authority. We are looking for an individual to join and lead a dynamic team as a Democratic and Constitutional Services Manager.

The role consists of managing a small team of Democratic Services Officers and is key to supporting the council’s decision-making process, ensuring relevant decisions of Council, Committees and the Executive follow sound governance.

You will be required to:

  • To support the Head of Constitutional Services and Director of Legal and Governance to deliver a quality democratic service
  • To provide specialist input and support to the directorates to aid effective decision-making in their service transformation and delivery
  • To manage and lead the work the democratic services team are responsible for, essentially committee and governance services
  • To ensure that all agenda planning, minutes and recommendations from the Executive and Council for regulatory and scrutiny committees are met
  • To engage elected members in policy, partnership, and organisational development initiatives
  • To deputise for the Statutory Proper Officer in relation to the democratic and overview and scrutiny functions of the Council and Cabinet as required

The post holder must be able to work ‘out of the normal office hours’ during the weeks as dictated by the requirements of the service.

Attendance in the office is required for formal meetings, however, agile working arrangements are available for day-to-day business. We offer an excellent working environment with flexibility for working at home and an attractive annual leave policy.

We are ideally looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in the democratic services field.

The post is politically restricted under the terms of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
