Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on and represent the council in anti-social behaviour cases, civil injunctions, housing possession proceedings, and closure orders.
- Provide housing management advice to support our diverse housing functions.
- Work closely with a collaborative team across various legal disciplines.
- Manage your own caseload independently, with support from senior lawyers and the wider Litigation Management Team.
- You’ll be instrumental in guiding our approach to legal challenges, ensuring that Southwark remains a leader in housing law.
How will you make an impact as our Housing Lawyer?
- We are seeking a qualified and experienced Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive with a strong background in housing law, policy, and public sector work.
- Has post-qualification experience in housing law, particularly anti-social behaviour.
- Is confident in providing high-quality, solutions-focused legal advice.
- Can quickly adapt to new laws and policies, applying them effectively.
- Brings knowledge of local government law and its relevance to housing.
- Has strong communication skills, able to explain complex legal issues in a clear, concise manner.
- Possesses excellent time management skills and understands the political sensitivities of the work.
- Is collaborative and proactive in building strong working relationships.
- Takes active responsibility for their ongoing professional development.
- This role offers flexible home working blended with travel into our London Bridge HQ.

Salary Range: £47,043 - £54,135.
This post attracts an additional market factor payment of 5% of salary + hard to fill payment of £2,327 package which can be redeemed against gym membership, health insurance, season ticket purchase, bicycle purchase, additional voluntary contribution to pension, subscription, and professional fees.
