About Us

St Helens is recruiting to three full time, permanent positions within the Legal team. This is an exciting time to join the Council as it pursues its journey of transformation and regeneration of its town centres.

St Helens is ideally located in the Merseyside area with good transport links to the surrounding areas. We are a busy, but friendly and well supported legal team. We are Lexcel accredited and have embraced new ways of working giving flexibility for all our team members to work in a hybrid way, allowing staff to take control of their work/life balance. Excellent employee benefits are available including access to the Local Government Pension scheme and to a fully insured hybrid/electric car through the Council’s car leasing/salary sacrifice scheme.

The exciting role will cover a wide and varied case load, for example licensing (both taxis and Licensing Act 2003), employment, civil and/or criminal litigation, in addition to providing management support to the Corporate Legal Team.

You will be responsible for advising on aspects of law relevant to licensing, employment and/or litigation, including working closely with Senior Officers and advising Elected Members of the Licensing Committee and Licensing Sub-Committee.

We welcome applications from Solicitors, Barristers and Chartered Legal Executives with experience of advising client departments and Elected Members in relation to at least one of the following areas - licensing, employment and/or litigation.
