About Us

St Helens is recruiting for a full time, permanent position within the Legal team.  This is an exciting time to join the Council as it pursues its journey of transformation and regeneration of its town centres.

St Helens is ideally located in the Merseyside area with good transport links to the surrounding areas. We are a busy, but friendly and well supported legal team. We are Lexcel accredited and have embraced new ways of working giving flexibility for all our team members to work in a hybrid way, allowing staff to take control of their work/life balance. Excellent employee benefits are available including access to the Local Government Pension scheme and to a fully insured hybrid/electric car through the Council’s car leasing/salary sacrifice scheme.

St Helens Borough Council is inviting applications for a full time, permanent childcare solicitor.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding legal team and provide key support to our client department.

The role will cover a wide and varied case load comprising child protection and safeguarding matters, including pre-proceedings, care proceedings, discharge proceedings, deprivation of liberty and general advice.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload of childcare cases and advising on all aspects of law relevant to Child Protection and Safeguarding, including associated advocacy in the Family Court.  Advocacy experience is therefore desirable.

We welcome applications from Solicitors, Barristers and Legal Executives with experience of, or an interest in, advising in relation to children’s safeguarding matters.  Whether you are newly qualified or have significant experience of child protection from a career in the public or private sector, we are interested to hear from you.
