Job Description:

September 2023

To all Local Government Solicitors

The Local Government Legal Society Trust Ltd provides sponsorship and grants to solicitors and trainees undertaking training courses relevant to their work in local government.

The Trust Board comprises of solicitors who currently work in local government or who have recently retired having substantial experience of working in local government.

The Trust are seeking Trustees to join the Board.

The people we are looking for should be a solicitor currently employed in local government, who has been so employed for at least the last 5 years or who has equivalent relevant experience. Alternatively, the role would be suitable for a person who has retired very recently from working as a solicitor in local government (for a period of over 5 years) and who remains on the Roll of Solicitors.

The successful applicants will be required, after a period of shadowing the current office holders, to take over either the Financial Director role or the Company Secretary role.

If you consider that you have the necessary skill set and wish to enhance the career of future local government lawyers, please send a chronology of your local government experience; setting out what contribution you consider you can make to the Trust and anything you feel may be of interest to the Trustees. You do not have to be a member of LLG to apply, but if you are a member then a short precis of your involvement with LLG would be helpful. Current Directors of LLG are not eligible to apply.

The Board usually meets about four times a year, and those meetings are normally held virtually by Microsoft Teams. Between meetings our duties are undertaken via email correspondence and/or telephone for example when we receive an application for financial support. Travel and subsistence expenses are remunerated if the Board meets in person. More details of our work are set out in the Annual reports for 2022 and 2023.

Applications from underrepresented groups are particularly welcome.

If you wish to apply, then email your information to the following email address by Tuesday 31 October 2023.
