Having completed Work Experience with LLG, Bracknell Forest Council back in 2021, I was given the opportunity to undertake tasks in a wide range of areas that went beyond my undergraduate study of Law. This was valuable as it allowed me to see what ‘Law in real life’ really looked like, and how it affected local communities and people. One task that I particularly remember, was creating a briefing note for the local authority setting out steps to take to reduce risk of discrimination claims. I was able to go from having never previously learnt about this area, to thinking about how it applied in a scenario.
I was also fortunate enough to be able to virtually speak with lawyers in the property, planning and adult social care departments. This allowed me to understand how paths into the legal profession can differ and made me recognise that any previous experiences I had could be used to demonstrate the skills necessary for a future in any career I wanted to pursue.
My work experience with LLG, Bracknell Forest Council was one of my first periods of legal work experience and remains on my CV and a talking point at interviews. The insight I gained during the period was invaluable and made me appreciate even more, the work that Local Councils do.
